Update

Well, I just wanted to update you all on information about Myles. Lanny and I went to a genetic counselor last week to discuss what happened to Myles. The counselor told us that his chromosomes were fine. They all matched up and there weren't any translocations. She suggested that what happened with Myles probably just happened in him since we don't have any issues in either side of our family. She suggested that we get out kidneys checked out to make sure we weren't living with a kidney issue and don't know it. We thought that was a great idea and are wondering why we didn't think of it first.

We then asked her what our chances of this reoccurring were and she said little to 25%. While that sounds high, one of Lanny's friends said yeah but think about it like this...you have a 75% chance that the next baby will live. Who knows what the future holds for us, but for know we are thankful that we got the chance to meet with the counselor and find out all we could about Myles.

Thanks again for all the support and prayers on our behalf.

We love you!!

The same thing happened to us with our little girl. (Differnt defect, but similar scenario.) She died before she was born (at 37 weeks) due to a hole in her heart. We consulted a genetic counselor to see what the chances of that happening again were and if it were due to a genetic abnormality. Because they couldn't test her blood, they were unable to give us a difintive answer. They did say that because the defect was the only physical abnormality, it was unlikely caused by a genetic factor. It normally is only genetic when coupled with other problems. All this to say, we were given the same percentages you were. We were also told that there is already like a 10% chance of something happening when ANY woman becomes pregnant. Those are just the odds. We chose to continue to trying to start our family. We were blessed a year later with a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Know that we are still praying for you and hope to see this same good news on your site in the future!

Great news Jenny! I am so happy that all of your testing came back so well. We have definitely been keeping you, Lanny and Myles in our thoughts. After going through our ordeal with Brennen, thinking about it, it is truly amazing what goes into forming a new life. I had no idea that the heart was formed in pregnancy week 6 to 11. I have similar thoughts as to whether if we decide to have more children, if they will have to go through what Brennen does, but the same answers, there is always a chance but not a big one. Anyhow, best wishes to you and your future. You already are an amazing mom!
